Beautifully illustrated history, based on new research...Understandinging Roseville Pottery... includes shapes, factory ads, rarities, and catalog pages not found in any other book!
This new book includes new research on the contributions of
John
Herold, who designed the glazes for the little-seen Mara line
(above
left). Frederick Hurten Rhead published a biography of Herold as 13
installments
of his column for The Potters Herald
(East Liverpool, Ohio). In one column,
Rhead described in detail how he taught high-school graduates to
produce
the hand-carved line Della Robbia (above right), Rhead's most
important
contribution to American ceramics.
Gazo Fudji's career is explained in more detail here. At above left, one vase with an applied crayfish bears his hand-incised artist signature. The photo above (right) shows a variety of Roseville's
early artware
products.
