GEORGE
KRAUSE COLLECTION, on consignment and for sale exclusively by Mark
Bassett
It is an honor to have been asked to
offer a
variety of mainly trial glaze and otherwise experimental Roseville
pieces from the George Krause Collection for sale this
year. As most pottery lovers know, George Krause was Roseville
Pottery's chief glaze chemist from about 1919 until the pottery closed
in 1954. In a long-term creative partnership with designer Frank
Ferrell, Krause's expertise and imagination defined the "Roseville
look" for several generations.
Some examples of the glaze trials,
prototypes,
and Raymor Modern Stoneware & Artware in the George Krause
Collection were featured in my book Understanding
Roseville Pottery.
Although the Krause family cherishes
their
heritage and have held onto many beloved examples of Mr. Krause's work
at Roseville, they have also asked me to assist them in dispersing many
interesting examples of Roseville, including a large service of Raymor
in the very rare Robin's Egg Blue glaze, which was developed just
before the factory closed--so not widely marketed.
I began selling this collection in July
2008, with many sales taking place at the annual Pottery Festival in
Zanesville, Ohio. Selected examples were also offered on eBay. At this
time, about 200 selections are available from my online showcase (by
mail order).
How to
Buy pieces from the George Krause Collection
Here are some ways to purchase these items:
(1) Only a few examples will be sold on eBay. My seller name
there
is "potterybooks." Unfortunately, I am not able to notify buyers when
such an auction will take place. (Teaching responsibilities will keep
this method of selling to a minimum.)
(2) Select
examples will be exhibited for sale at the August 2008 Wisconsin
Pottery Show & Sale (in Madison), and then at the November 2008
Scott Antiques Market (in Columbus, Ohio). For more information, visit
the shows page.
(3) An
assortment of Roseville pieces from the Krause Collection are also
being offered for sale via my online
showcase.
